Former member of the Croatian armed forces (HOS) Sakib Balic confirmed to the news agency SRNA that he offered the prosecution in BIH ( Bosnia & Hercegovina) to testify about the war-crimes committed by HOS against the civilians in Sijekovac, Mostar, Zitomislici and Dubrovnik.
Admitting that he also killed, he claims the prosecution of BIH have no intention to process the war crimes against the Serbs in these areas. Balic points out that he is very disappointed on the Sarajevo authorities who “forgot all about his war merits” and that’s why he wants to testify about the war-crimes he knows of. He adds that he knows of many crimes and that many fear his testimony.
”I have testified about the crimes in the Dretelj-camp near Capljina, but the prosecution was not interrested of the crimes committed in Sijekovac”, says Balic adding that the suspects for these crimes are still not processed. Authorities of Republika Srpska is charging Balic as a member of HOS having murdered and abused Serb civilians in the areas of Posavina and Hercegovina.
He says commander in chief of HOS Ante Prkacin, who is also former MP representing Croatian party of rights in the Croatian parliament, responsible of the war crimes committed against the Serb civilians in Sijekovac 1992. And that he also knows about all crimes committed against the Serbs in Brod.
”Prkacin was the main organizer in the liquidation of the Serb civilians. There were also HOS-units from Ljubusko, Konjic and members of Handzar Divizion made up of Muslim volunteers.” Says Balic. He points out that also regular armed forces from Croatia participated in the crimes. Balic confirms that they intercepted and liquidated a few dozen Roma in the Borda area and who were refugees since the start of the war from Srebrenica.
”Ante Prkacin orders were that the bus from Srebrenica and Skelani carrying the Roma, is not allowed to reach Croatian territory. People from four buses in which there were mostly women and children were liquidated and buried in massgraves.” Explains Balic. He adds that Prkacin knows where the Roma bodies are buried. One mass-grave with bodies of killed Roma was found four years ago in Sijekovac, 59 bodies amongst which were 23 children were exhumed
Forty year old Sakib Balic says that in the summer of 1991 he volunteered as a member of HOS, and that he got his training in Hos-camps in Split and Vrbovac. One of the instructors in June-July 1991 was Miro Baresic (known by the assassination of the ambassador of Yugoslavia, Vladimir Rolovic in Sweden 1971).
In the camps they learned to hate and that they have to fight for Croatia until the river Drina. “In the military units there were catholic priests who had the task of boosting the moral of the soldiers. They did this by promoting hate towards the Serbs. They would say things like KILL, CUT, destroy everything that is not yours.” Says Balic.
He was arrested by his comrades and taken to the camp in the Mostar heliodrome, because he did not want to participate in the conflict between Croats and Bosniaks 1993. Balic says that with the help of the International Red Cross, he was transferred to USA, where he was in jail and serving five years sentence because of participation in illegal activities
