KURSUMLIJA – A group of armed Albanians from Kosovo opened fire on “Srbijašume” workers , who came to assess the damage caused by illegal felling in the area of the village of Trmka near the administrative line with Kosovo.
One of the “Srbijašume” workers Zivorad Janicijevic said that shooting lasted for about ten minutes.
“We’re already counted trees cut down in one part of the forest, and performed damage assessment. When we got a little closer to the administrative line, suddenly fire was opened at us. They were firing in bursts from automatic weapons, and we could also hear a few guns firing single shots. While bullets were whizzing through the forest, we hid behind trees, ” said Janićijević.
Srbijašume workers, foresters and representatives of the company from Belgrade then fled deeper into the forest to the municipality of Kursumlija, after which they reported the case to the police.
According to unofficial information, the police conducted an investigation at the scene and no one was caught.
In the incident no one was injured.
In the past ten days, police have arrested several Kosovo Albanians in illegal logging in the municipality of Kursumlija.
Three months ago, in the village of Borovac near Kursumlija, there was an armed conflict between armed Kosovo Albanians and the police. The conflict lasted about a half an hour and six Albanians from Kosovo were wounded.
