Although mortally wounded, 21-year-old Goran Šaćirović liftet his bloody face from the ground and shot Shiptar terrorist who had a grenade in his hand ready to finish off his surviving and wounded comrades.
Ten of them are given birth by the mother Zorica. The fifth child, a son Goran, was born August 6, 1978. And now 1999, exactly on the same day, along with the rest of her children, they celebrate his birthday. The new cemetery Next to Bor!
Five sons and four daughters. - All kids are good, but Goran, not because he is no longer alive, was the best. There is not a single person in Bor who don’t have a kind word to say about him. He was an angel. And that's why I in the graveyard, next to mounds celebrate his birthday. To Him for his soul, and to us as a consolation. But it seems to me that there is no consolation. Days like this bowing as if to pile grief. From the poor to the poor, Zorica has suffered as long as she can remember. She is Roma from the Roma Mahale in Surdulica. There she once met four years older Šefket Sacirovic. Also he poor, two poor souls in hope of being able to escape poverty. Therefore, in 1968. They decide to leave Surdulice. Not just any where. Bor was at that time the great hope for the whole of Serbia. Many Roma made a living in Bor. Zorica was only fourteen and Šefket eighteen, still kids more or less, and yet their family started to grow then. Sladjana was born 1970, Susanna 1972, Ekrem, 1973, Muharrem 1976, Goran 1978, Lydia 1980, Ivica, 1984, Nenad, 1987, Ljiljana in 1990. and Emran in 1992. Job in the copper plant in Bor enabled Sefket allowance for the children, and also a better shelter. Kitchen and closet in the old elongated mine building in addition to a restaurant, "Copper" in the settlement . Address: Moshe Pijade 72/5. "Comfort" like a crowded city bus, but without the quotation marks to the one in Kozarskoj street.
Many children and also in this Roma family the priority was survival, rather than a good life. The children were educated, but they never made it to graduation. Children grew up and got married very young and now Zorica have lots of grandchildren as well. We only mention Zorica because Sefket got sick and died. He was to young for pension and SACIROVIC were sent to Bor CSW(Social Security Help), and now the kitchen for the poor, which is not far from their apartment.
Goran was to do the mandatory army service in June. The entire family was waiving him off at the railway station in Bor. Wished him a safe trip to the barracks in Raska, light and beautiful military days. Infantry for the story.
Later mother Zorica, brother Ekrem and sister Sladjana went to witness his military oath. And what an event. Goran Šaćirović infantryman was one of the best soldiers in his unit. After the training, as a very capable and disciplined soldier, he was reassigned to Sjenica and there he became a member of an elite infantry unit. The name for such a capable and well-trained soldiers, the "Pester wolf."
- My son Goran went straight from the barracks in Raska to Kosovo. It was, I later learned, Sunday, March 7. The day after he contacted me by phone from Kosovo. And now echo the words of my child, which, I must admit that, coming clear from the headphones, "Mother, my unit is getting
ready to go but we do not know where we will go. No need for you to worry if you don’t hear from me in a long time... " I was shaking, it was clear that he was sent to Kosovo. I did not know he was already there.
The air smelled of gunpowder, bombs and death.
- I was terrified when the war began. I knew my Goran was in Kosovo. He sent me a letter from there. A few sentences about him. Providing security in a village near Kosovska Mitrovica. It's not dangerous. "But you," he told me in the last sentence, "do not worry, only make sure that my younger brothers and sisters are not starving. Love you all! Goran……
." So, here, I just felt something dark and I said to my son Ekrem, - son, our Goran will not make it back from Kosovo ... , as a mother I can feel it!" Bombs here in Bor and Timok were shaking the ground and down in Kosovo they were carpetbombed,
I was a wreck, chainsmoking, living on coffee and cigarettes. Unfortunately, I was right, my foreboding was not without reason. My son ... My unfortunate child!
"Our condolences, Mother"
Mother Zorica was staring at the screen. They were dying where Goran was. Deadly sting of Shiptar sniper ruthlessly directed towards our soldiers and policemen. A lot of vermin in the ranks of terrorists. In the skies rain from hell.
Wednesday eleven in the morning. Zorica the mother sat on the concrete stairs outside the apartment. She winced from the Baths of army boots. Three men in camouflage approached her. An officer and two soldiers.
- They asked for Šaćirović. In an instant I returned the terrified question: "My son Goran is not dead??" Sadly I was told that he is and they expressed their condolences. After that I do not remember anything.
- Goran died 12 April, and Ekrem went for his brother's body in Raska. Together with his mother, brother they dressed him in civilian clothes and the military clothes they put in the coffin. In the presence of relatives, friends, and lots of Bor`s courageous infantryman, Goran Šaćirović was buried in the new cemetery. With Military Ceremony and music. As befits a hero. Goran was 21.
And indeed a hero he was. This was, among others, confirmed by his officers who came to the semi-annual memorial service, their story, and the letter that after the death of Goran came from his friend Elvis Mamutovic from Zemun (Belgrade).
LETTER from a survivor
After her son's funeral Zorica got a letter from Elvis Mamutovic from Zemun.
He writes:
"Dear Mother,
I'm Elvis, friend and comrade of your Goran, from whom you probably received several letters. Besides words of comfort, there is nothing that i can provide. I`m also wounded when Goran died. And my mother almost would now be grieving ... Our unit was out cleaning terrain of terrorists. Upon completion of the task we were returning to the camp ... We ran into an ambush. Eight of us and our captain we got caught in crossfire. And were re all wounded. Goran was hit by sniper shot in the head and immediately fell. Badly wounded, I raised my head and saw a terrorist approach with a grenade and a gun to finish of the wounded. I screamed in pain and fear. Goran still had enough strength to somehow pick up arms and mow the terrorist, and then collapsed.
You shoulld be very proud of him! "
